SHIRLEY

“Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday dear Shirley… Happy Birthday to me.” - Shirley

Shirley is a surrealist short film created in collaboration with Calathea Arts and Tyler Ebanks for Small is Beautiful 2025 and festival, Surreal Solihull. The film is a theatrical response to surrealism, exploring loneliness in the borough of Solihull.

Inspired by the Chatty Benches initiative in Shirley Park, it follows the story of Shirley, a woman turning thirty who has struggled to build friendships in adulthood. Haunted by distorted childhood dreams and troubled with anxiety, her journey explores the courage of stepping out of your comfort zone and embracing self-acceptance.
