BSEEN Rising Star Award 2023

In May 2023, Calathea Arts co-founders Ruth Mestel and Charis McRoberts were proud to receive the BSEEN Rising Star Award, recognising the early impact, energy, and ambition of our work.

The BSEEN programme, a collaboration between four Birmingham universities led by Aston University, has supported over 800 new businesses through intensive startup training and mentorship. The award was presented as part of BSEEN’s 10-year celebration, spotlighting standout student and graduate entrepreneurs who are making waves in their industries.

This recognition means a lot to us, not just for the accolade, but because it celebrates what Calathea Arts is all about: creativity with purpose, collaboration, and building something that matters.

RBC Alumni on Stage and Screen 2024

In June 2024, Calathea Arts was proudly featured in the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire’s Alumni on Stage and Screen, alongside names like Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan and Alice Chapman, ASM Book Cover on the Blood Brothers UK tour.

The spotlight came as we returned to the Old Joint Stock Theatre in Birmingham with our original production Wise Women, written by our co-founders Charis McRoberts and Ruth Mestel, and starring fellow Acting graduate Skye Witney as Margaret.

It was a full-circle moment: coming back to our training roots with a bold new story, performed in one of the city’s most beloved venues.

We’re honoured to stand among RBC’s vibrant and talented alumni, and proud to keep pushing boundaries with the work we create.
